Ningaloo - more wide angle shots
Boy, I've been bad about being here lately! I still have not found time to go through the photos from my awesome dives a little bit ago, but here are a few that I've zapped out...
Anglerfish surrounded by bait
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Octopus
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @25mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Wobbie laying up over a ledge
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Here's a short set from the feeding action:
Here come the trevally
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Straight past me
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Coming around again as the baitfish swim for it
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
Looking into the action
Canon 40D, Sigma 17-70 @17mm, Subal housing & big dome, Inon strobes
And this is what it looks like right after the last of the marauders leaves the frame - those bits that are floating are mostly leftovers and the haze is all the sand kicked up from the hunters hitting the dirt to get a better angle on their prey. It was crazy to see. The haze settles in five or ten minutes...

Great series on the baitfish attack. I like the feel of the angler, octopus, and wobbie shots.

Love them all... but the wobbie is very cool!

I like the first and the third! For someone that doesn't enjoy wide angle shots you sure do a nice job of them!!!
And from a subject matter standpoint, I really enjoyed the last one showing the post feeding frenzy vis.

Nice pictures. I like the octopus the best.
I don't really like shooting wide angle either. It's hard! Well, and when I bring the wide angle setup down I invariably see nothing large of note and all kinds of really cool small stuff.

for me, the topside "bird season" seems to be almost over, so I'll be sticking my 17-70 on soon and seeing what creepy crawlies i can find in swamp...
...still haven't decided if i want to house my 40D yet (although my S80 has just been sent back to Canon as my flash started playing up)...if they cna't fix it (or its too expensive) then i have to decide on the G9 or housing the 40D....
..may depend on how good i get with the 17-70 !

There's a guy over on photography-on-the.net that is looking at getting one just for his trip. I bet you could arrange to buy it and the housing off him when he returns!! (He goes in June)
