Does anyone know of any fins that are easy to kick with but do well in current. Split fins are easy to use but they don't do well with much current. Alot of solid fins are stiff and can be hard to use for some people. Is there something inbetween surely with today's technology someone has come up with the best of both worlds:D . Granted alot of this is personal preference but some different fins to try would be great.

I second the motion.. Jets more gooder :)

I second Walter's jet fins too. I use them.
But yes, they are stiff.
If you want a blade fin, good in the current but flexible and a little easier on the leg, (but still decent in a current) try Avanti quattros by mares.

I dive in some pretty strong currents around the world.....I use the Graphite twin jets from Scuba Pro.....and I have had to swim against some ripping currents....I love them.....and they are a lighter fin to travel with.

I have weak legs and have no problems with Jet fins. Without them I'd suck even worse in strong currents.
My recommendations are Jets/Turtles on your feet and an X-scooter in your hand!!

I have Turtles and the Mares Avanti. I like them both.

I have Scubapro Twin Speed and Mares Avanti Quattros. I like them both, easy to use and they are OK in strong current. UK dive press reviews say that the new genaration of Mares fins have a slightly shorter foot pocket and are not so good/comfortable to use - but I have not tried them myself.

i have some Tusa Imprex (bright green ) and love them - light to travel with as well. Also have more recently purchased some OMS Slipstreams (probably very similar to JetFins) - seem good, but are a lot heavier (so will be more for my local diving rather than flying-travel diving)....haven't used them extensively but from what i've done they seem good. Of course, I also put spring straps on both sets of fins.

Thanks for all the input. I'll get her to try Avanti if the jet fins are to stiff for her.
Corey loves her Quattros, I love my Bios, the DIR folks love their Jets.
One thing in common? We're mostly all using spring straps!

It's much more than the "DIR" community that uses the Jets ;)
..... many in the cave community like Jets as well, for the fine "kick control" they give you. You'll find allot of Hogarth's using them.
of course you're right, but I was just trying to make a unifying comment without starting the usual debates.
Essentially, spring straps rocks.

I have got to get spring straps and new fins.
I kick up too much silt in the ones I have now and they don't have spring straps.
I am always the last diver to get my fins on :verysad:

I had the Manta spring straps and then got the innovative spring straps with the handle.....make sure if you order a pair of the spring straps for Twin jets....order 2 sizes smaller than your fins.

Good tip! Is this generally true for spring straps or is there some type of presizing?

I do not remember if the Manta spring straps had sizing...but they fit.....the innovative straps have S thru XL....I bought the XL...never tried them on until I was in Palau getting ready to Jump in at the New Dropoff....put them on.....2 sizes too big....fun couple of dives.

This could be a challenge for me.
I will have to check out fin sizes.
I wonder if they make spring straps small enough.
I got new gloves recently.
I guess they had a really tough time selling the 2Xsmall gloves.
They where thrilled to get them off the shelf and gave them to me for FREE. :D

When it comes to most dive gear ~ I have to try it on before buying.
So many things just don't fit.
Try looking for boots when you wear a size 5.5 shoe.... Oh the joys.
Hell ~ buying shoes is no joy either.

ScubaToys.com has several sizes. LeisurePro carries several types.
There are websites which you can google that will provide guidance on how to measure.
I didn't bother with proper measurements but just guessed (couldn't find my sewing tape measure). Guess I'll know how they fit once I install them and stick my foot with boot in there.....
Manta's don't have the extra measure of security by adding the cave line. I guess we could add that after market?

if too long, the springs are usually pretty easy to cut down to size.

Randy how do you cut down and bend spring steel without heating it?....I was afraid to fool with it...so sent back for a Med.

The springs can be hard so you'll need a good cutter. I have bolt cutters which works quite well.
Cut off a small section then use a screw driver to bend the coil back out as it was before.
Come to think of it, I think there are some pictures on the web someplace showing how it's done. I'll see if I can find the pics and post the link.

Thanks ~ I might be calling you.
Now about us diving together... WHEN are we going to do it?
If you're not into the do it yourself with a blowtorch type thing, scubatoys.com has some nice one's available that even CoreyH and I were able to selfinstall.
By the way, I have yellow flippers, and they're sweet!
Corey loves her Quattros, I love my Bios, the DIR folks love their Jets.!
Sometimes I wonder if my husband even knows me...I dive Volos (but I do love them).
Re: spring strap sizing, I got these:

They come in two sizes, and I used the smaller for my size 7/7.5 feet. There is a lot of room to maneuver with the placement on fin pocket so I can't imagine it wouldn't work for you, Cold.
