Gear Bag Tips
Purely a matter of personal preference, a gear bag is necessary for traveling with your
equiment and a convenient way to store items when not diving. A specialized
dive bag has been designed to hold and organize your
equiment but other types of luggage can accommodate
dive gear too. Regardless of what you decide to use, keep in mind:
- It should hold everything without causing damage to anything
- Zippers should be impervious to salt water or other corrosion.
- It should be sturdy enough to withstand a car or airplane trip.
- It should be compliant with airline standards if you want to carry it on.
- It should be very compact if you plan to take it on a boat.
- Seams, zippers and fabric should be very sturdy... dive gear can get pretty heavy.
- It should be easy to clean because it will smell like the sea after your fabulous dive vacation!
It's a bonus if it has water tight areas where you can store damp gear or keep clothing dry. Wheels are great but should be sturdy enough to support the weight of all your gear. A separate mesh bag is a convenient way to transport
equiment to/from dive boats.
A separate
regulator bag is highly recommended so you can protect and carry your regulator system and keep it protected from other items in your bag.
